2010-2011 Season

A young solicitor, Arthur Kipps, is sent to Crythin Gifford, a fogbound market town on the east coast of England to attend the funeral and settle the affairs of Mrs. Alice Drablow. An elderly widow, she lived alone in the desolate and secluded Eel Marsh House. A mysterious woman, in black, appears at Mrs. Drablow’s funeral, sending Kipps into a tailspin of anxiety. What little he manages to pry from the villagers only increases his fear. A supenseful mix of sound and lighting effects combine with a superb story to infuse us with an acute sense of unease - and a deepening dread as the climax approaches.

Like many who live in his rarified world he’s flamboyant and headstrong - and he’s rashly elected to represent himself. While the evidence against him mounts, he clashes with the Judge and the Prosecutor, as he battles to have his defence understood. Electrifying courtroom exchanges and backroom surprises build to an ending that will shock you.

Meet Garry Essendine, a successful and self-obsessed actor, as he prepares to leave for a tour of Africa. Amid a series of events bordering on farce, Garry has to deal with women who want to seduce him, placate both his long-suffering secretary and his estranged wife, cope with a crazed young playwright, and overcome his fear of his own approaching fortieth birthday (and, by implication, his impending mid-life crisis). Classic Coward shenanigans with a large cast of eccentrics fighting for their moment of attention.
