Tartuffe

by Moliere
World premiere of a new translation by ESP member David Nicholson
Directed by Harvey Levkoe

When the religious hypocrite Tartuffe ingratiates himself with Orgon and his mother, Mme. Pernelle, they take him into their home and promise Orgon’s daughter’s hand in marriage (even as Tartuffe secretly attempts to seduce Orgon’s wife, Elmire). Everyone else sees through Tartuffe’s pose but is it too late to save the family from eviction and to keep Orgon from being thrown in prison? This playful new adaptation of Molière’s classic comedy, performed in straightforward prose, sharply satirizes hypocrisy, deceit and blind religious piety.

Waiting in the Wings

by Noel Coward
Directed by Jan Francies

The Wings is a British charity home for retired actresses. It provides for those who have been stars or leading ladies and are now reduced to poverty. No actress under the age of 60 is eligible for admission. When long-time resident May Davenport learns that Lotta Bainbridge is about to take up residence she’s furious. May and Lotta haven’t spoken since a rumoured ‘quarrel’ that led to a 30-year feud between them. The Wings’ residents have also been lobbying the fund committee for a solarium lounge, which is ‘under consideration’. The fun begins. As a plan is hatched to raise the needed money, we join the world of the colourful characters and zany events at The Wings.
